'Urban residential' push is on in Ahwatukee

With more than 85,000 residents, Ahwatukee considers itself more than a bedroom community.

A push to create bigger projects in the village is prompting some discussion about how to embrace a more urban identity while maintaining Ahwatukee's character.

"There's pressure to become more urban with these citywide text amendments," said Christine Hood, Ahwatukee village planner for Phoenix. "The village committee is kind of questioning, 'Is this appropriate for Ahwatukee Foothills given the character that Ahwatukee Foothills has?" More...
