Scottsdale seeks input on downtown plan

Scottsdale is looking for residents, business owners and investors to assist in shaping a new downtown plan that will guide development for at least the next decade.

The city is now accepting applications for nine scheduled focus groups that will start work next month.

Surprise land sells for $2.5 million

SURPRISE - Commercial real estate brokerage CB Richard Ellis has reported the sale of 10 acres of land in the Rancho Gabriela neighborhood at the northwest corner of Bullard and Peoria avenues in Surprise. Plans call for the new owner to develop the property into a mini-storage facility, the company reports.

The parcel sold for $2.5 million, and the buyer was Personal Storage Systems of Phoenix. The area has access to Loop 101 and the future Loop 303. More...

Rockefeller development near airport will be huge

development company with a big name, an inventory of skyscrapers and a long New York City history is planning its first Arizona project: 20 commercial buildings on nearly 80 acres in Chandler.

The Rockefeller Group is seeking to rezone former farm land on the northwestern corner of Gilbert and Queen Creek roads. A job fair geared to displaced mortgage professionals will be held Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Gainey Ranch Golf Club, 7600 Gainey Club Drive in Scottsdale. The event is presented by Stewart Title in conjunction with the Arizona Mortgage Lenders Association and Arizona Association of Mortgage Brokers. Arizona home prices drop for the first time in 16 years

Housing prices in Arizona officially waded into the red last quarter — the first time that has happened in 16 years.

New figures Thursday from the federal Office of Housing Enterprise Oversight show that home values in the state dropped nearly three-tenths of a percent in the second quarter of this year compared to the prior quarter. The last time the state dipped into negative numbers was in 1991. More...

Countrywide moves to claim loans from First Magnus

Trying to cut ahead of other creditors, Countrywide Financial Corp. has asked a bankruptcy court for immediate access to loans underwritten by Tucson-based First Magnus Financial Corp. with money borrowed from Countrywide. The California-based Countrywide filed a motion on Thursday to take possession of the mortgages, which were made using a nearly $29 million line of credit. Existing Home Sales See Slight Decline

The National Association of Realtors announced today that total existing home sales - including singe-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops - decreased 0.2% in July when compared to the previous month's sales.

Bob Walters, chief economist for Quicken Loans, says the decrease in sales, along with the largest inventory of unsold homes in 16 years, shows the market is still struggling to find solid footing. More...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Home prices have shown few signs of any turnaround, and a new report sees the downward slide continuing.

On Tuesday, Standard and Poor's said its nationwide S&P/Case-Shiller Home Price Index fell 3.2 percent in the second quarter, compared with a year ago. For the three months ended June 30, prices dropped 0.9 percent from the first quarter. More...
